Coaching

Coaching is an impartial, confidential and safe process that helps individuals gain deeper self awareness and to devise from that awareness new ways of behaving to achieve the outcomes they want.

It allows the individual time and a reflective space where they can examine what is helping and what is hindering them from achieving what they want.

The coach through the skilful use of this time and space enables the individual to develop new ways of thinking about the issues they face and discover for themselves new ways of tackling those issues.

A useful way of thinking about coaching is to imagine that the coach is the hairdresser's mirrors.  In the same way the hairdresser positions the angles of their mirrors in such a way as it enables their customer to see the back of their head.  So the coach by reflecting back the individual's thoughts as spoken and enabling them to see them from a different angle allows them to visit parts of their thinking which were previously out of sight.

Performance coaching derives from many disciplines, such as transactional analysis, neurolinguistic programming, clean language and emotional intelligence.  The manner in which these disciplines are applied for each person's issues is part of the skill of the coach.
