What's Your Guilty Pleasure?

We've all got one ...

I really love watching The Detonators on the Discovery Channel on TV. Watching someone blow up a building with a huge loud explosion is a great way to relax; when you’re safely snuggled into the arm chair with a nice cup of tea, of course ...

Like many people, I love watching huge buildings tumble. I'm not sure what's so fascinating about it; I think it’s the raw power! Also, it's a lot quicker than watching them put the building up!

I'm also quite amazed at how the engineers achieve the precision to drop a huge building so precisely into the space they've allocated. The Detonators always explain how they do that and there's something wonderful about listening to experts explain the tricks of their trade and then pull it off. "Safe danger" I call it.

However I also love Mr. T in the World’s Craziest Fools, Rude Tube and other TV programmes "where it all goes horribly wrong". Only - and I mean only - if no-one is hurt.

If I had to pick a favourite it would be boat launches. The devil in me loves it when the million dollar yacht slides out of its strapping too early, hits the water and turns turtle. What's that about? Relief, I think, that it's not me. Reassurance that others screw up too and in a much, much bigger way than anything I've ever done, which puts it all into perspective as far as I'm concerned! At least I didn't wreck someone's million dollar dream!

For me, it's all a great distraction from running my business, a great way to waste some time and chill out whilst feeling safe and secure. So what's your guilty pleasure?
